Design

When this project was first conceived, the only automated brewing systems were large commercial breweries the size of Budweiser/Miller/Coors. There were a few partially automated systems built using PLCs or in the case of Wicked Stone’s Brewery, an old 286 computer. In the years since concept, data acquisition equipment, and powerful micro controllers have become available. Home brewers are now able to build their own semi automated  breweries using somewhat inexpensive components.

To date, no one has built a fully automated brewery on the scale we have planned, not private nor commercially available. We aspire to do something different; to create an appliance that simplifies every aspect of the brewing process, provided in a artful form factor, with an intuitive user interface that would make the late Steve Jobs proud. Our appliance will be social, allowing the sharing of recipes, and even the active brewing process online within the brewing community and beyond.

Conceptual Drawing of OttoBrew

Imagine;

  1. Connect Electricity and Water
  2. Select or enter a Recipe
  3. Load Ingredients
  4. Click “Brew”
Our design concept is complete, and much of the programming is already done. Our next step is to build the pre-production prototype, and get it into the hands of would be brewers in order to polish the design. In order to do this, we need funding. This project lends itself to a new avenue of funding from sites like Kickstarter. The feedback we have received from people has been extremely positive, and we believe we can find enough support from the community to fund this project. How does this work?
